CIVIL DISOBEDIENCE WORKSHOP

Plowshare Peace Center presents:

“Nonviolent Direct Action for a Better World”

Throughout history people have banded together to take direct action to improve their conditions. During this 2 ½ hour interactive workshop, participants will explore the fundamentals of planning and implementing an effective action of civil disobedience. Topics covered include: forming your group, choosing targets and tactics, risk assessment, decision-making, de-escalation techniques and more. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to help shape the agenda, ensuring the most relevant focus for local organizing. Presenter: Jeff Winder coordinates the Wayside Center for Popular Education, a regional resource center for social change movements. Jeff has more than 15 years of direct action experience ranging from anti-war and anti-nuclear work to Latin America solidarity campaigns to the anti-globalization movement in the wake of the 1999 Seattle WTO uprising. He has worked as an educator and trainer for much of that time, helping to prepare groups for nonviolent direct action.

Open to everyone.
